single review: there is no other time - klaxons

Something that I always praise Klaxons on is their original alternative/indie, quirky sound and since it has been almost four years since the release of their sophomore album Surfing The Void, the announcement of a new single is something to unquestionably anticipate.

The single There Is No Other Time is out on March 23rd and has seen a collaboration with electronic duo, Gorgon City, producing the track. Their influence on the record is extremely prominent and almost any form of distinct Klaxons characteristics has lost itself amongst the newly incorporated dance elements and repetitiveness of the song. Even the singer, James Righton's, usually individual voice is only really heard in the chorus of the song, making me doubt the amount of input the band had within the creation process.

The continuous lyrics of "there is no other time, no other place, no other way" creates an almost ominous atmosphere, indicating a sense of a mysterious and intriguing musical future for them. Yet this juxtaposes with the very 80/90's disco vibe which can particularly be heard with the build-up-to-chorus and single piano chords, leaning towards the end of the song.

Whilst I really like both Klaxons and Gorgon City as individual artists, I did not initially 100% feel their collaboration. It took me at least ten listens to begin listening to it without questioning why they took such a different route with their sound but it is natural for a band to develop within a few years.

The forthcoming album featuring There Is No Other Time is set to be released this summer. It also features production collaborations with artists like The Chemical Brothers which gives us a slight indication as to what the rest of the album may sound like. Despite a complete difference of sound, the song is catchy and it's quite possible that Klaxons could be making their long awaited comeback this year.

What do you think of their new song?

love,

  1. brilliant review of the single.,I've only listened to it a few times but it's a bit bland, maybe it's a grower but I much prefer their older and better stuff.
