gig review: kerrang! tour 08/02/14

Last night in Cardiff kicked off the first night of the annual Kerrang! Tour featuring support acts Baby Godzilla, Nekrogoblikon, Crossfaith and the (in my eyes) legendary nu-metal headliners, Limp Bizkit. This was my sixth time running attending the Kerrang! Tour and I believe that this had to be lower in the list of great line ups...

The first night of the tour always has both it's advantages and disadvantages. The bands sound is not quite polished yet at the same time, they can sound their best from the lack of voice and body strain. The crowd for the first date also have nothing to match up to and instead just set the standards.

 (nekrogoblikon, crossfaith, baby godzilla)

The crowd certainly set the bar high for the night but this wasn't from the offset. baby godzilla were energetic, to say the least but their music seemed almost disorientated. the focus was mainly put on their crazy stage presence and how, apart from the drummer, the other band members found it difficult to remain in one place. although highly entertaining, their music was not memorable.

nekrogoblikon were possibly the band I was least excited about. their entrance was somewhat amusing as the band were introduced by a goblin that stayed on stage for the whole set, interacting with the crowd and slightly picking up the still atmosphere. all eyes were on this character which made it difficult for nekrogoblikon to be taken seriously.

Crossfaith, on the other hand, dramatically changed the atmosphere. their upbeat, synthy, yet metal hooks immediately captured the crowds attention and although the songs were unknown to the majority of the audience, they were as energetic as they would be for a headlining act. the band truly stole the show and it won't be long before they'll be headlining the same size venues that 'bizkit are currently.

the crowd remained hyped for the arrival of limp bizkit. before the band cracked open their first song rollin', which obviously went down a treat with the fans, a Hawaiian inspired character played an acoustic number which the fans responded in turn with chants of "who are ya". a handful of their greatest hits were played such as my way, counterfeit, and my generation yet they missed nookie and their renowned cover of george michael's faith, instead, covering killing in the name of which undoubtedly, the crowd still went crazy over. the venue was essentially one giant mosh pit for drunk men over the age of 30 to relive the 90's/00's in their wannabe fred durst attire but didn't particularly mind which songs were played, as long as they were able to mosh. even towards the back of the room, miniature circle pits were created, showing there are really no spacial limits to the fun that limp bizkit can give. the band were great, but it was almost as though they were trying to fill space between songs with empty words and unnecessary riffs and drum beats of songs that aren't theirs rather than trying to play more songs their fans would've liked to have heard, especially as they had only 70 minutes to play which fred durst emphasized, a reason why they (jokingly) weren't able to play break stuff.

here was my outfit for the evening.
h&m leggings
ebay necklace
primark socks
vans

most of the dates on the tour are now sold out but if you have an opportunity to go then take it, you will not be let down.
